Wood & Barnwood Engraving
A photograph burned directly into reclaimed timber, where the grain running through the image is the point rather than a problem. This is the work the shop is best known for.
What this covers
Wood engraving is the least forgiving material and the most rewarding. Every board burns differently, so a photograph has to be prepared for the specific piece it is going onto — the same file on old barnwood and on fresh maple gives two very different results.
The finished pieces read like sepia photographs because that is effectively what they are: tone rendered as depth of burn. Historic buildings, farm scenes, vehicles, family photographs and memorial images all work particularly well on reclaimed stock.
